Human-Centered Product Design

We design products and services using a continuous improvement process based on real-world use and customer feedback that helps us maximize our impact locally and across the globe.

Listen

  • Most of our 4,800 global staff live and work in the communities they serve. As we get to know our customers, they tell us what they need to build financial security.
  • Our network benefits from the work of FINCA International’s research and data science team. Interviews and surveys combined with robust, sophisticated data collection and analysis help us build a deep understanding of the people we serve and how we can help them reach their financial goals.

Design

  • Our agile approach to product design starts with a clear thesis about how a product will deliver value.
  • Our roadmap details the entire process, broken into short sprints that allow us to quickly deliver specific solutions and mitigate risks.
  • We deploy solutions using minimal viable technology, so we can gather critical feedback quickly at the lowest possible cost.

Refine

  • Using a sandbox environment, we test solutions with a small group.
  • If customer behavior doesn’t match what we’re trying to achieve we make adjustments and test again.
  • We deploy more widely only after a solution demonstrates its value to customers and the network.

Customer Empowerment

  • Advanced call centers offer friendly, efficient service at every step of the customer’s journey.
  • Customer relationship specialists spend time with their customers. This one-on-one support can be especially important for people who are new to – and often wary of — formal financial services.

  • A range of educational offerings help customers make informed decisions and gain the skills they need to reach their dreams.
  • With support from FINCA International and like-minded partners, our holistic approach helps customers address a wide range of obstacles that can make it hard to escape poverty for good.
